Exercise matches anti-depressant drugs for mild to moderate depression!

I wrote what I think is a very important blog post last month, pointing to a couple of studies that show exercise is as good as anti-depressants in clinical trials. The blog post is here: http://www.seabuckthorn.net/index.php/?p=50. Anti-depressants are undoubtedly useful in treating depressive disorders, but the lack of publicity highlighting non-pharmaceutical solutions is disgraceful.

24 Hours for Darfur

Who hasn't heard of the Darfur conflict? Who doesn't want to see it improve? But it's amazing how little press some organisations are getting in their efforts to make a difference. One such organisation is'24 Hours for Darfur', a grassroots video advocacy initative in support of Darfur. They are collecting 1 minute videos (recorded on cell phones, webcams, regular cameras, etc), forwarding them to local and national/international politicians, and screening them in a 24 hour screening in New York on September 16. They've received pretty much no publicity, and it's a great idea!

Here's what you can do:

a) Record a 1 minute video in support of Darfur and forward it to them;
b) Publicise their initiative through blogging, email, etc;
c) DIGG or favourite their youtube video (links below);
d) Favourite their blog on Technorati or other services.

Urban food production

As peak oil approaches, or perhaps since it's past, the issues relating to food security will become more and more urgent. This week I've written extensively on the issue here: http://www.seabuckthorn.net/index.php/?p=34
